THE CONTEXT

The WMF is a certified International Trade Fair that has been a landmark for entrepreneurial culture, creating opportunities and connections within the international innovation ecosystem, for over 10 years.

Each year, takes place in Rimini the annual appointment with the World Startup Fest - a major event for global startups, scaleups, and investors, which in the past edition registered more than 36,000 attendees from 49 countries and more than 1,300 startups and investors. Among the many events, the largest International Startup Competition in Southern Europe, now in its 11th edition, witnesses every year the engagement of leading international players from the entrepreneurship and innovation fields.

Every year, more than 1.000 startups apply to pitch and compete in Rimini. Some of the pitching startups are choosen, in fact, from the WMF call for startups, while some others are selected from the competitions of the local events organized in the framework of the WMF International Roadshow.

In its international show in the Czech Republic, in fact, the WMF is holding a Startup Competition that will allow the best project to compete in Rimini, 15 - 17th June 2023.

OPPORTUNITIES

Startups applying to the Czech competition will have the opportunity to gain visibility and raise awareness on their project in front of local investors and relevant stakeholders, who may actually decide to support the growth of a great business idea.

15 startups will be chosen to pitch on the stage during the event in Prague, and will be judged by a jury composed by local investors and WMF members.

The first three classified will attend the WMF 2023, June 15 to 17th in Rimini, Italy, and will be awarded with the following prizes:

  • 1° | FIRST PRIZE: desk in the Startup District + access to the B2B & networking activities + pitch on the Startup Stage in Rimini, Italy

  • 2° | SECOND PRIZE: desk in the Startup District + access to B2B & networking activities at the WMF in Rimini, Italy

  • 3° | THIRD PRIZE: access to networking activities at the WMF in Rimini, Italy.

Moreover, the first classified, could also be selected to compete in the WMF startup competition finals (the biggest in Southern Europe) and pitch in front of 36,000 attendees on the WMF Mainstage. In the past editions, the prize's value reached more than 3.3 millions euros.

In addition, all the startups selected from the local call, during the Czech event will have the opportunity to access the following:

  • B2B meetings with local investors

  • local exhibition area dedicated to startups

  • WMF's global network, with the possibility of being involved in related initiatives all year round.

THE CALL: HOW IT WORKS

Once the call is closed, and the candidates evaluated, the WMF's Innovation Team will announce the 15 startup that will have the opportunity to pitch and present their project to the jury and the attendees on the local event in Prague. Each team will have 3 minutes to present the key elements of their business idea. The jury of investors, will then have another 2 minutes to ask further questions. A round of votes at the end will then announce the winners.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The call is dedicated to startups and businesses - made up of individuals or teams - with innovative projects or ideas regarding the digital/technological sector. Innovative projects aimed at generating a positive impact on territories and society will be considered with particular interest. Applicants will be selected according to the following criteria:

  • Skills of the team, knowledge of the sector, the feasibility of the project;

  • The development stage of the product/service;

  • Degree of innovation and its defensibility;

  • Positioning in relation to competitors;

  • Consistency with market and customers’ needs and potential outreach;

  • The business potential of the idea;

  • Completeness of the documentation presented.

The WMF encourages and supports the development of innovative entrepreneurial projects also capable of producing a positive influence on the environment and society. For this reason, the WMF Startup Competition gives the opportunities to the applying startups to indicate specific challenges of the future that they are preparing to tackle innovatively:

During the application, startups can also indicate if and in what measure they adhere to the ESG policies (Environmental, Social, Governance) as well as the impact generated by their innovative project on 1 or many of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals indicated by the UN 2030 Agenda.

It will be possible to clarify the compliance to ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria as well as the impact generated by the innovative project on one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the UN 2030 Agenda.
